Les SlovaKs Dance Collective (SK/BEL): Journey Home - October 19 / 20:00
What do you get when you combine uncontrolled, physical and spontaneous contemporary dance with Slovak folk traditions, humour and live music? Les SlovaKs consists of five extraordinary Slovak dancers who have previously performed with companies such as Ultima Vez, Rosas and Akram Khan Company and have worked with choreographers such as David Zambran and Sidi Larbi Cherkaouim.
Their common point of departure is dance without limits, which is spontaneous, expressive, emotional as well as virtuosic and full of humour. Their creations also reflect the Slovak influences and traditions in which they were raised. “Folk dance is a source of inspiration for us. We’re not trying to replicate their form, but we do want to find and use what is valuable in them, and we offer this to the audience combined with contemporary dance,” explains Martin Kilvády, a member of the company.
