Special event: Yasunari Tamai – solo performance at Masarykovo nádraží.

18.4.2007

A naked Yasunari Tamai caused surprise at Prague’s Masarykovo nádraží (Masaryk station) with his solo, site-specific butó performance.

Early on Sunday evening, travellers returning to Prague and passer-bys were able to witness a site-specific, physical theatre performance from the outstanding Japanese butó dancer Yasunari Tamai.

As a warm-up for his appearance at Archa Theatre on Wednesday, where he will appear with Vladimir Javorsky in the performance Don Quiote of Hakushu, Yasunari Tamai provided an open–air demonstration of his art. He drew a lot of attention, and even evoked feelings of civic duty among some astonished passer-bys, who called both the police and doctors. In the end, everything was amicably explained and Vladimír Javorský manager to convince the police that Tamai’s display was in fact a demonstration his world-class butó dancing and that no psychiatric investigation was needed!

Archa Theatre has a steadfast, long term commitment to presenting theatrical performances outside the usual spaces of theatre buildings. The biggest projects of this type so far took place in 2005, in a refugee camp and in 2006, in a super modern office complex.
