Statement by Archa Theatre to The Sisters of Mercy concert

3.4.2009

Archa Theatre strives to present high-quality world art and provides artists with above-standard conditions to do so. We feel a responsibility towards you, the audience; therefore, we try to be as accommodating as possible to the artists, so that what they want to share with you and the way in which they do so reflects their vision to the highest degree possible. Sometimes, of course, there is a gap between the audience’s expectations and the artist’s vision. In this case, we always respect the artist’s choice.
The audio at the concert by The Sisters of Mercy was executed completely according to the technical demands and wishes of the performers. The theatre’s technical crew completely respected the requests of the artists and their team. During sounds tests and the concert itself, the audio console was controlled by a British sound engineer brought along by the band.
The audio of the concert does not in any way reflect the quality of Archa Theatre’s technical equipment or the professional approach of our team.
To our inquiries whether the sound level was too low, we always received the answer that everything is OK. The band considers its Prague performance as standard and completely in accordance with its requirements.
Arrogance towards the audience was and is part of the band’s image and fans of The Sisters of Mercy expect this. Every artist of course risks that a radical step, such as changing the band’s sound, might lead to it losing its loyal audience. Unless it was simply an April fool’s joke by the band, we hope that The Sisters of Mercy will soon find a new audience for its new sound.
Archa Theatre co-organized the concert as the venue. The concert promoter was the Charm Music Agency.
