Dance Through the Fence and the All Star Refugee Band return to Archa Theatre. Now with English subtitles!

27.1.2009

After a series of fall performances at Archa Theatre, Divadlo Husa na Provázku and a guest appearance at the international theatre festival in Plzen, Jana Svobodova’s team returns for performances as part of the Malá Inventura Festival.

DANCE THROUGH THE FENCE
Dance Through the Fence is a multimedia performance which was created on the basis of a dialogue between artists and immigrants.
The real stories which writer Hana Androniková incorporated into the performance permits a deep look into the complicated situations of people who had to abandon their homes.
The performance takes the form of an art installation, which leads the audience throughout the space of the Archa Theatre. The individual stories are accompanied by the multicultural brass band All Star Refugee Band, which is made up of musicians from among immigrants and artists.
All Star Refugee Band combines elements of klezmer, Balkan brass band and ethno and creates room for humour, different perspectives and irony.

“The performance takes place throughout the entire space of the Archa Theatre. The audience follows a trail from one stage to the next, each with a different story. A major part of the show is the “klezmer” orchestra led by the USA’s Michael Romanyshyn. Jing Lu from China as a bizarre singer of shrill Chinese tango is irresistible.”
Nina Vangeli

All Star Refugee Band
The All Star Refugee band is a multicultural group of musicians from China, Kurdistan, Armenia, Slovakia, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and the USA. The band energetically mixes brass band, ska, rap, klezmer, Dixieland, Chinese opera, and Armenian and Kurdish melodies into one pot.
