July 2019

This year’s Famufest, a festival of films by FAMU students, will take place from November 6th to 9th at Archa. The main feature of the programme will be 13 blocks of films which were created at the faculty over the last year.

This year the organizers have for the first time decided to give students the opportunity to present their own films in addition to the ones they made in school.

Another new feature of the Famufest will be the presentation of unproduced student screenplays. We have prepared several informal evenings during which the students will have the chance to perform their screenplays. This programme will be presented with the participation of students of acting and directing at DAMU.
Student work from other departments at FAMU will be presented in several other ways, for example with photography exhibits, as well as video and sound presentations.

Visitors to the festival can also look forward to the premiere of one of the works from the new documentary series “Zlatá šedesátá” (The Golden Sixties), which deals with the golden era of Czechoslovak cinema. It was created by producer Čestmír Kopecký and director Martin Šulík.

Famufest also offers a rich complementary programme in the form of afternoon workshops, discussions and lectures. Its aims is to, among other things, provide a forum for communication between FAMU students and other arts schools. Palo Fabuš will discuss new media (www.palofabus.net) and there will be a presentation of the Mikroloops project.

The evening musical programme will be provided in collaboration with the Sperm Festival. Performing will be the psychedelic band High Places, the Brooklyn dream-pop lover Chairlift and the Czech premiere of the Slovak project Modré Hory. At the last evening of the festival on Sunday, November 9, the Australian band The Presets will perform. In addition to Justice and Crystal Castles, one of the best bands of the new electro wave will be coming to the Czech Republic for the first time to perform their album Apocalyptico.

BONUS! Each day of the festival will begin with lunch for the organizers and participants provided by the U Rozvařilů restaurant.
