Aydin Teker (Turkey) - Hars - Oct. 10 / 19:30

6.10.2008

The conventional view of the harp as a static two-dimensional instrument and its sculptural beauty is transformed by a dancer, a former harpist, into a new form based on the shape of the body. The dialogue between the body and the harp creates a magical symbiosis, as well as unexpected geometrical, sound and space associations.

Aydin Teker is a choreographer and pioneer of contemporary dance in Turkey. She graduated from the State Conservatory and joined the State Opera and Ballet. In 1976 she received a scholarship at the Tisch School of the Arts in London. After her return back home, she worked as an instructor and choreographer of modern dance at Mimar Sinan University, where she acquired a PhD. Thanks to a Fulbright scholarship she was able to conduct research about somatic theories in New York in 1993. She deals with a site-specific field and currently works at the dance department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul.

Ayse Orhon is an independent dancer and choreographer. She has been playing the piano since the age of five. In addition to classical music, she has been interested in dance and sports since her childhood. She extended her studies at the music conservatory to the subject of dance and graduated from DansAkademie/EDDC (The Netherlands/Germany). After completing her studies in 2001, she began collaborating with Aydin Teker. She also began teaching at the dance department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul. She took part in the project in Mousonturm in Frankfurt as part of the Tanzplan Deutschland project. Orhon is a certified Pilates instructor. She is the founding member of the CATI Contemporary Dance Artists Association (2004) and the AMBER Association for Process-based Arts (2007).
