July 2019

15th Performing Arts Festival from October 15 to 22 at the Archa Theatre.

Programme at the Archa Theatre:

Friday, October 15, 19:30
Jo Stromgren Kompani (Norway): A dance tribute to the art of football
Prague audiences now have the opportunity to see the famous and award-winning work of original director and choreographer Jo Stromgren. His choreography is characterized mainly by its sense of humour, openness, deep perception and playfulness. Stromgren creates a tribute to the art of football from the point of view of ballet, and in so doing crosses the artificially created gulf between sports and the elite world of the arts.

Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17, 19:30
Kris Defoort - Dirk Roofthooft (Belgium): Brodsky’s Concerts
The premiere of a performance inspired by Russian Nobel laureate Joseph Brodsky. Renowned pianist and composer Kris Defoort and equally renowned performer Dirk Roofthooft have taken on the challenge of expressing the essence of Brodsky’s poetry. This tribute to the great poet, who read his verses as Orthodox liturgical chants, is the work of extraordinary artists and promises an extraordinary experience. Presented as part of the Flemish theatre season in Prague.

Tuesday, October 19, 19:30
De Utvalgte / Jon Fosse (Norway): Shadows
A play by one of the most outstanding contemporary playwrights widely hailed as Ibsen’s successor. De Utvalgte is one of the best independent theatre companies in Norway. Their style is characterized by interplay between drama, concert, film and artistic performance, as well as experiments with new technologies, music and interaction. The production of Shadows, which has been performed at prestigious European festivals, was nominated for Norway’s Hedda-prisen Award for best director.

Wednesday, October 20, 19:30
Sonia Gómez (Spain): Adventures with a Stranger
The Catalan performer and dancer has prepared the next part of his audacious project for the festival: a simulation game with set rules. The interested party/client/stranger chooses a topic and an identity from a catalogue, which Goméz must perform. This time the identity is that of a prostitute, who communicates with an unknown, desperately lonely man.

Thursday, October 21, 19:30
Club Guy & Roni (Netherlands / Israel): Alpha Boys
An ironic, brilliantly danced study of the male world, which reveals the gentleness and fragility of the male soul and its discovery of freedom through female attributes. In addition to excellent dance and acting performances, the production features exciting rhythmic accompaniment by drummer Jens Bouttery. Choreographers Guy Weizman and Roni Haver, after inspiring dance careers with the Batsheva Dance Company and Ultima Vez, have now founded the already world renowned Club Guy & Roni.
Friday, October 22, 19:30
Bryssinck & Peeters (Belgium): Zanahoria
This production in the style of lectures with the spirit of stand-up comedy and Dadaistic performance is a crazy oscillation between hopeful anticipation and profound disappointment, between optimism and desperation, between truth and fiction, and between dull reality and untarnished imagination. Hans Bryssinck worked for many years as a set designer and dramaturge for the famous Les Ballets C de la B and Diederik Peeters appeared as a performer with Alain Platel, Jan Fabr and Superamas, among others. Presented as part of the Flemish theatre season in Prague.

Festival Program in La Fabrika:

Sunday, October 17, 21:00
P.A.T. and Studio 12 / Sláva Daubnerová (Slovakia): M.H.L.
A documentary monodrama inspired by the life and work of Slovakia’s first female director, Magda Husáková-Lokvencová, who also was the first wife of Communist notable Gustáv Husák.
Czech premiere!

Monday, October 18, 19:30
Dragan Stojčevski & Tereza Benešová & Jan Beneš (Serbia – Czech Republic)
JÁTADY TYTAM …like when the eyes teach the ears how to listen
This new project uses light to examine the quality of darkness and music to examine the quality of silence. The audiovisual composition is based on the relationship between light and music.
Czech premiere!

Wednesday, October 20, 21:00
Jan Bárta – Halka Třešňáková (Czech Republic) – Milou Veling (The Netherlands)
Not exactly about heaven…

DAILY, 13:00 – 19:00 / FREE ENTRY!!!
Filip Berte (Belgium): EUTOPIA – Mass Grave of Collective Memories
A fascinating structured exposition of natural and urban catastrophes, war conflicts, and the consequences of violent behaviour. In short, everything that, whether we like it or not, forms our European collective memory.
